On Saturday 23rd August 2003 , in the midst of a tremendous rain storm, the 3rd/9th Light Horse, South Australian Mounted Rifles,  held their annual Dining In Night for Serving and Retired Officers at Para Para House.

The event took on particular significance as  Her Excellency the Governor Of South Australia, Mrs Marjorie Jackson-Nelson AC CVO MBE. attended.

The Regiment used Para Para, because its history was connected with the Estate.  Acting as guard to HRH Prince Alfred Duke of Edinburgh during the 19th Century and around WWII years when Para Para was also used as officers quarters.

The Regiment used this event as training for Protocol.

Honour Guards were set at the front door, and Roving Pickets  patrolled the property.

The Ballroom was established as the main dining, seating for around 60 invited guests.  The evening commenced with pre dinner drinks in the Entrance Hall, Dining Room and Drawing Room.  This was followed by a multi course meal, observing Piping traditions for each course.

The event was so successful, that the following year the Regiment returned for a Cocktail Party in conjunction with the Gawler Council in celebration of its Freedom of the City rights.
